"In a sleepy village in the Shire , a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle_earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord's evil dominion"

This was the book to start my lifetime obsession with Fantasy. I first read it years back but kept revisiting it.

Tolkien took the ages old story of "Good triumphs evil" and wove a exceptional tale of valor, friendship and perseverance with detailed history and description of middle earth.

The first volume of the epic fantasy which was a sequel to Tolkien's 1937 novel, The Hobbit, was initially supposed to be for children. There were fantasy novels earlier, but this trilogy set a benchmark for all fantasy books written thereafter.

The plot follows the journey of the Frodo and the formation of the Fellowship which depicts the gathering of folks from different races to save Middle-earth from destruction. Aragorn, Boromir from the race of the Men, Legolas, the Elven prince and Gimli from the dwarf kingdom, Gandalf from the Istari and the Hobbits , Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin. Together they journey through hell and high water towards Mordor to reach Mount Doom in order to destroy the ring in the fires where it was forged by Sauron, the Dark Lord.

Three Rings for the Elven kings under the sky,

Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,

Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,

One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,

One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

My favorite among the fellowship would always be Aragorn, Chieftain of the Dunedain, Rangers of the North , the Heir to Isildur and the last hope for the failing race of men.

I know many people dislike it as its overly long and with way too many characters but trust me , once you read it , there's no going back.
